My name is Lauren Allinder. I have been in the profession of educating our youth for 9 years now. Within those 9 years, I taught 1st, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. Although my undergraduate degree specifies in elementary education, my true love of teaching falls within the middle grades.

I finished my undergraduate degree from The University of Mississippi along with my student teaching in Liverpool, England, where I lived for 5 months. After teaching for 4 years, I ventured back to school to complete my graduate degree from Arkansas State University.

As an educator, it is my mission to inspire young people to take the information I gift them and use it in their own lives. This includes a love of reading and writing. It is my hope that my students see themselves as readers, writers, researchers, and difference makers.

My students are required to read in class EVERYDAY. Students are given the opportunity to read a book of their choice or one I suggest. There will also be times I assign a specific book for reading assignments. However, just as your child is reading at school, they should also be reading at home. Here are a few helpful tips to ensure your child’s reading success in class and at home.

TALK TO YOUR CHILD ABOUT WHAT THEY ARE READING

PROVIDE A QUIET TIME AND SPACE FOR READING

ENGAGE IN CONVERSATION ABOUT READING

DEVELOP A RELATIONSHIP AROUND A BOOK
