Nationally Board Certified Teacher

I began my teaching career in 2004 as a teacher at Southaven High School. Throughout my years there, I taught 9th grade ELA, Comprehensive Reading / Read 180, as well as Psychology. I absolutely loved my students there, and it was hard stepping out of the classroom.

However, after earning my National Board Certification and Master's degree in 2011-2012, an opportunity opened for me to step into a leadership position at DCS Central Office. As the ELA/Literacy Specialist for middle schools, I gained much experience in curriculum design, data analysis, understanding best practice, and providing professional development to teachers. Again, I enjoyed my work and the opportunities for growth that it afforded me, but in 2016 I felt the calling to return to my passion: the classroom!

Working with middle schoolers is providing me with a new experience, and everyday I learn something new. I love teaching; I love my community; I love your kids! I am blessed to have the opportunity to spend my days with them.

My husband, Brian, and I married in 2006. We have two sons, both students of Hernando Schools. Tristan is a 9th grader at HHS, and Teegan is in 3rd grade at HHES this year. The other member of our family is Chappie, our shelter dog.

I enjoy binge reading, traveling, spending time outdoors, hiking (when I can get away to the mountains), gardening, journaling, painting, attending concerts, and just spending time with my family and friends. I am an edu-nerd and probably spend too much of my time invested in some aspect of education; however, it is a passion and calling for me.
