Toni Goss

6th Grade Math

Welcome to Hernando Middle School! My name is Toni Goss, and I will be your child’s Math teacher.  I am very excited about this school year, and I look forward to helping your child grow and learn throughout the year!

I was born in Memphis, TN and raised in Desoto County.  I received my Bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Mississippi. I am married to my husband Mark, and we have a two-year-old daughter, Blake. She is a wild woman! :)

I am excited to be at HMS for my sixth year!

This year in Math, we will be covering a variety of topics that follow the Mississippi College and Career Readiness Standards. On the back of this letter are the Policies and Procedures for my classroom.  Please review these and go over them with your child. We will go over them in class, too.

Communication is one of the most important parts of my job, and I welcome you to contact me with any question you might have.  My email address is and the school telephone number is 662-429-4154.  I will also be using Schoolstatus to contact you with any reminders and updates. You will also find information as far as upcoming events or activities we have been doing in class posted on my website.

I know that this will be a great year in our classroom, and I am thrilled to be your child’s teacher!  If I can ever do anything to enhance their learning experience, please contact me. Go Tigers!

Policies and Procedures
We are using a consumable book this year, and we will be issuing those within the first few days of class. Your child will need their book, binder with folder and composition book, paper, and pencils (please no pens!) every day. We will be utilizing Schoology & Clever for assignments as well. They will have access to our Pearson textbook through their Clever account. Your child will be able to login as follows:

Username: first initial of first name then first initial of last name then LAST 6 digits of their MSIS#
Password: school mascot then 6 digit birthday

(This login will be the same for them to login to their computers at school, their emails, and their schoology accounts).

Username: full MSIS #
Password: full MSIS #

Attendance will be taken every day, and it is essential to learning that your child is present.  There will be a folder with all make-up work located in the front of the room on the “while you were out” wall.  Students must be seated in their desk working on Bellwork when the bell rings.  Please encourage your child to be on time!

Homework will be given once a week at this time. We are planning to assign it online through Schoology on Mondays and have the due date set for that Sunday at 11:59 PM. This is subject to change. Please remember that all work must be done in pencil.

9 Weeks grades will be calculated the following way:
A 90-100    9 Weeks Test-   10%
B 80-89      Tests-   40%
C 70-79      Classwork/Quizzes-   35%
D 60-69      Homework-   15%
F 0-59
(Unless otherwise specified – if percentages change, I will let you know via an announcement through Remind).

Classroom Expectations
I set the bar high for my students! I expect them to come prepared, try their hardest, respect others, and listen when they are given directions. Here are the consequences for the not-so-good:
1st Time: Warning
2nd Time: parent contact
3rd Time: Disciplinary referral. The principal will be made aware of the situation, and whatever punishment he sees fit will be upheld.

I believe in positive reinforcement, so I love to use rewards, treats, praise, and notes home to show appreciation for the good! J

As you know, this year is very different from any other year. Please know that I am here to help you and your student succeed. I will do anything I can to help them reach their highest potential. I ask that you be flexible as things can change. I will also do the same! I hope to have a great year with all of my sweet babes!
